About Midwest Fence

Goddard Fences That Fit Goddard’s Code

Goddard writes its fence rules into its city code, Section 3-103F. Behind the front of the house, open and closed fences can be up to 6 feet. In the front yard of a home, a fence can be at most 4 feet tall and has to be at least 75 percent open, and chain link isn’t allowed there without the Board of Zoning Appeals’ approval. Those rules shape what we recommend from the first visit.

Beyond new installs, we handle fence repair, including wind damage, and fence and deck staining for wood fences and decks.

What Goddard’s City Code Says About Fences

From the Code of the City of Goddard, Sections 3-103F and 3-103O, and the city’s animal control code.

6 Feet in Back & Side Yards

In any yard except the front yard, open and closed fences can be up to 6 feet tall, with additional height allowed for security design measures.

4 Feet & 75% Open Out Front

On lots with single-family or two-family homes, front-yard fences can be up to 4 feet tall and must be built with at least 75 percent open space.

No Chain Link in Front Yards

Chain link fences aren’t permitted in the front yard of a home unless the Board of Zoning Appeals approves them as a conditional use.

Exceptions Go to the Board

The Board of Zoning Appeals can approve taller fences, or fences with less open space, in any yard as a conditional use.

Corner Lots & Safety

Corner lots must meet the vision triangle requirement in Section 3-103O, and no fence may create a traffic hazard or a danger to people or animals.

Dog Enclosures

Goddard defines a secure enclosure for a dog as a fence at least 4 feet tall that the dog can’t get through or under. Barbed wire and electric fences can’t confine animals unless the property holds an agricultural classification permit or an exterior fence protects them.

How It Works

How a Fence Gets Built in Goddard

Front-yard rules drive most Goddard design decisions, so we settle them first.

1

Free Estimate & Layout

We visit your Goddard property, measure the line, and point out which sections fall in the front yard, where the 4-foot, 75 percent open rule applies. Your quote is free and comes with no obligation.

2

Choose Styles That Fit

Privacy styles work in back and side yards up to 6 feet. Out front, open styles such as split rail or ornamental iron can meet the open-space rule; chain link needs a conditional use.

3

Permits, HOA & 811

Confirm permit requirements with the City of Goddard and get HOA approval if your neighborhood has one. Kansas requires two working days’ notice to 811 before digging.

4

Build & Warranty

The crew builds the fence, usually in 1–3 days, takes the old fence away for free, and backs the work with a 1-year warranty on workmanship and materials.

Common Questions

Goddard Fence Questions

Goddard’s front-yard, chain link, corner-lot, and dog-enclosure rules, answered from the city code.

Goddard sets its own fence rules, separate from the City of Wichita, so check with the City of Goddard before you build, and get HOA approval if your neighborhood has an HOA. We guide you through the permit process and local codes before any work begins. Read our Wichita-area fence permit guide.
Up to 6 feet in any yard except the front yard, with additional height allowed for security design measures. The Board of Zoning Appeals can approve a taller fence as a conditional use.
Yes, within limits. On lots with single-family or two-family homes, a front-yard fence can be up to 4 feet tall and must have at least 75 percent open space, so a solid privacy fence doesn’t qualify there.
In back and side yards, yes. In the front yard of a home, chain link isn’t permitted unless the Board of Zoning Appeals approves it as a conditional use. See our chain link fence guide for backyard options.
Goddard’s animal code describes a secure enclosure as a fence at least 4 feet tall that a dog can’t get through or under. Barbed wire and electric fences can’t be used to confine animals unless the property holds an agricultural classification permit or an exterior fence protects them. Our best fence for dogs guide covers heights and dig guards.
Yes. Corner lots have to meet the vision triangle requirement in Section 3-103O, and no fence may create a traffic hazard. We check sight lines at the estimate.
Usually within 1–2 weeks of an approved estimate, depending on materials and our schedule, and most fences take 1–3 days to build. If wind takes down a section, we aim for a 24–48 hour fence repair response.
